“He who fails to plan is planning to fail.” It’s a simple saying you may have heard before. It’s highly relevant to your ministry as a worship leader.
When you step up to a leadership position you must be willing to accept all aspects of that role including the critical role of planning and organizing everything needed for a successful worship service. There is no time to point fingers or passing blame to others. As a worship leader, God is placing you in a unique position of leadership within your church and He will also provide the wisdom, tools, and success you need to grow your church and bring glory to His name. First, you have to accept the challenge and dig deep to find the success that you long for. You’ll need to master skills as a musician, a shepherd, and a leader. Lacking ability in any of these three areas will cause stress and could lead to painful failures. Just like my mentorship taught me when I was a young worship leader, I’m going to help you learn how to develop teams and lead worship authentically and with success. I’ll help you put systems in place in your local ministry that will allow you to plan ahead, grow a strong team, and lead worship well every week.

Things we cover in the mentorship include the following:
I want you to experience the amazing feeling of being able to grab a guitar and lead people into worship around a campfire or at a small group meeting. Just knowing 4 of the right chords and a simple strumming pattern will allow you to play hundreds of popular worship songs and will strengthen your ability to lead your team and your church in worship. I’ll show you how to play and introduce you to my simple Play and Sing worship songbooks to help you start leading worship from guitar.
Singing is one of the most powerful things we do as worshipers. Joining the worship team and leading with your voice takes skill, talent, and practice. We help you learn the most important things including how to warm up, how to sing in the right keys, and how to be a part of the worship team so you can have success as a worship vocalist and use your gifts for God.
Don’t be shaking in your boots the next time you have to transpose a song before rehearsal. Understanding music theory is the first step in gaining confidence as a musician. I absolutely loved music theory classes in college because I started seeing patterns that helped me make sense of how music worked. Once I show you key patterns and memory points, you will become a competent and confident musician.
We begin by exploring and discussing your vision for the future growth and success of your worship ministry. This is the most important place to start. Where there is no vision, the people perish. (Proverbs 29:18) I introduce the God inspired circle and help you learn how to continually get to the next level as you strengthen and reach your goals.
You will learn how to start small and build a band no matter how small or big your ministry team is right now. We also decide what model will work best for your ministry (rotating full bands or rotating members within one main band)
Using the WTK core skill sheet and the skill batching technique, I will show you how to start building teams.
Continual and intentional training is the key to creating success in your worship ministry. It’s not hard to implement but you need the right training materials. This week I will help you get a plan together that will allow you to train more volunteers for your worship and tech ministry.
Your top 50 song list is key to creating success in your bands and for leading your congregation to worship each week. We will start forming your top 50 and I will provide you with the templates to create a successful top 50 list for your ministry.
Every week you have to pick songs to lead your congregation into worship. I will help you with all aspects of selecting set lists that work well and inspire people to follow you into worship each week.
When you have a system that works well and you plan 2-4 months in advance, your job as the worship leader will become exponentially easier. At least it will feel much easier. You will also accomplish more and be able to focus on leading worship well. I’ll show you how structure your teams in a way that will allow you to batch your planning into a jus a 2 hour block each month. This powerful workflow technique will give free up your time to focus on other important factors of being a successful worship leader.
Writing great service sheets is the key to a smooth and stress-free Sunday morning worship service. I give you my templates and even my shorthand one-sheet service method to help you with all the key memory points. Not only will you feel successful and confident, your musicians and tech team will run smoothly and feel the power of being on a well-organized team.
